Our Purpose

The purpose of the Global Implementation Society (GIS) is to promote and establish coherent and collaborative approaches to implementation practice, science, and policy. The GIS promotes the development and integration of effective implementation, improvement, and scaling practices in human service settings in order to improve outcomes for children, families, individuals, and communities worldwide.

Professor Timothy Carey is the Director of the Institute of Global Health Research and the Andrew Weiss Chair of Research in Global Health at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda

Niveen Abu-Rmeileh


Dr. Niveen Abu-Rmeileh is a Professor of Statistical Epidemiology at Birzeit University. Dr. Abu-Rmeileh has been involved in multicounty projects at the national, regional and international level.

Sergio Chacon


Sergio is a psychologist with a master’s degree in social and community psychology with over 27 years’ experience. Currently, Sergio is the Director of the Latin American GIS Hub.

Ejemai Eboreime


Ejemai Eboreime is a physician with postgraduate training and expertise in public health, implementation science, and health systems research. He has about 15 years’ experience in global health, health systems strengthening, community and primary health care, and health program management.

Dr. María Fernández is Vice President of Population Health and Implementation Science at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) and the founding Co-Director of the UTHealth Houston Institute for Implementation Science.

Dr. Saima Hamid, is serving as a Vice-Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Grace Irimu


Grace Irimu, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Nairobi, which is the biggest medical school in Kenya.

John Øvretveit


John Ovretveit is Director of research for the Medical Management Center at the Karolinska Medical University in Sweden and Professor of health improvement, implementation, and evaluation there.

Jenice Pizzuto


Jenice Pizzuto is a systems, change, and implementation expert and author. She is the founder of IMPACT Lead & Succeed. She served as the Professional Learning and Resources Committee Chair before joining the GIS board. Her volunteer commitment also includes serving Learning Forward, where she helped form the Learning Forward Oregon Affiliate and served as president and vice president of the Oregon affiliate.

Yulia Shenderovich


Yulia Shenderovich, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University, UK, where she works on examining programme implementation in the fields of violence prevention and youth mental health.

Beatrice Wamuti


Dr. Beatrice Wamuti is a Takemi postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health with a PhD in Global Health – Implementation Science from the University of Washington (UW), in addition to being a registered medical doctor (University of Nairobi) with an MBA (Strathmore University) and MPH (UW).
