Herbert B. Peterson, MD, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor, is the past chair of the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. The Global Implementation Society was fortunate to have Bert as a Board Member from 2015-2020. Bert provided expert guidance as GIS transitioned from a hopeful group to a vibrant Society. His experience with professional organizations was exactly what GIS needed as the Board debated the merits of a Society, created a Management Plan for establishing the Society, and executed the Plan in the next few months. Bert’s expertise, patient counsel, and encouragement in the face of difficulties is greatly appreciated and makes a lasting contribution to GIS.
